A domain is registered for a period you choose, from one year up to ten for most extensions. At Metoda you choose per domain: turn on auto-renew, and we renew it for one year with your saved card about 30 days before it expires (we email you a week before); or leave it off, and we remind you.
Before the expiry date
We email you about 30 days and about 7 days before the expiry date. Renew from the domain page in your account; the renewal costs the same as the registration (see the price list).
After the expiry date
An expired domain stops working: the website and email on it go offline. We send one more reminder after the expiry date. The registrar then deletes the domain.
The redemption period
For most generic extensions a deleted domain spends about 30 days in the registry’s redemption period. During that time only you can get it back, for the restore fee plus one year of renewal — for example, restoring a .com costs the restore fee shown on the price list on top of the yearly price.
When anyone can register it
After the redemption period the domain is usually held for a few more days and then released, and anyone can register it — including people who watch for expiring names. Renew in time if the name matters to you.
.rs and .ba domains
For .rs and .ba the registry’s own rules apply after the expiry date. Contact us before the expiry date if you need help.
