How to change your domain’s nameservers.

Updated October 17, 2026 · Metoda LLC

Nameservers tell the internet which DNS service answers for your domain — where your website, email and other records are looked up. Changing them moves the whole DNS of the domain to another provider.

Where your domain starts

New domains registered with Metoda start on our nameservers — their names are shown on the domain page in your account. Free hosting works only while the domain uses them.

Switching to another DNS provider

  1. At the new DNS provider, add your domain and recreate the records you need (website, email). Doing this first avoids downtime.
  2. Note the nameserver names they give you, for example ns1.example.net and ns2.example.net.
  3. Sign in, open the domain from My domains and enter 2 to 4 nameservers in the Nameservers section. Click Save nameservers.

How long it takes

The registry updates the nameservers right away, but DNS resolvers around the world keep their old answers for a while. Changes usually spread within a few hours; occasionally it takes up to two days. During that time some visitors may still reach the old servers.

Going back

To use free hosting again, set the nameservers back to ours (listed on the domain page), then turn hosting on there.
